Ramadan is almost here! Like every other year, there will be some discrepancy amongst the Muslims worldwide about which day to actually start Ramadan. But it’s safe to say there is one thing 99.99% of the Muslims agree on – there MUST be dates during Ramadan to break the fast!
No matter which country or culture you belong to, dates are a staple food during Ramadan. The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “If one of you is fasting, he should break his fast with dates. If dates are not available, then with water, for water is purifying.” [Ahmad]
Here’s a date recipe that is quick and easy, and will definitely be a hit at your next Iftar! I’ve had some family members who don’t particularly like dates try this and they liked it so much that they ended up eating more than just a few! It also has two of my favorite ingredients – HONEY and DATES!! 🙂
Ingredients:
- 3 oz cream cheese
- 1 tsp honey
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon powder
- 2 tbls chopped pecan
- 2 tbsp coarsley crushed almonds
- 15-20 Dates
Start off with room temperature cream chese
Add honey, cinnamon and pecans to cream cheese and mix well
Take the dates and slit them down the middle and remove the pit.
Stuff the dates with cream cheese mixture. I used my babys spoon because its tiny size is perfect for the job.
Top the dates off with finely chopped almonds for an extra crunch!
Caught a little hand trying to get some 🙂
Tips:
* You can skip the nuts altogether or add other nuts such as walnuts or hazelnuts.
* Mascarpone can be used instead of cream cheese.
* Medjool dates work best because of their sweetness and pliability.
Have a blessed Ramadan!
This sounds so yummy! We stuff our dates with almonds and whipped cream.
