I recently moved into a new house and my utensil drawers are huge! And they are a big mess! I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on the big size drawer organizers. I would need several of them to fit my drawers. So I decided to make my own! My inspiration came from Amanda’s blog. Thank you for such a great idea!!!
First I headed to Lowes to get my supplies (Note to self: Do not take a baby with you to Lowes). The pieces of wood I got are .25 in x 2.5 in x 24 in. You might need to get something different depending on the size of your drawers. I also picked up some invisible glue.
Next, I took everything out of my drawers and decided how I wanted to organize my utensils. After arranging them, I used blocks to divide them up. I then used a ruler to measure each section.
I made a diagram so that after I remove the blocks, I would know exactly where to put the pieces of wood. I felt like such a pro!!
Next step was cutting the wood. Lucky for me, my husband has a power saw. But he wouldn’t let me use it. My dreams of being a carpenter were quickly diminished :(. If you don’t have a power saw, you can also use a regular saw or head back to Lowe’s and they will cut it for you for free!
When you are ready to glue the pieces of wood, take the entire drawer out so it’s easier. Glue the pieces of wood together and let it dry for 24 hours. I didn’t glue it to the drawer itself because I wanted it to be removable. There you go! My beautiful drawer organizers for less than $10!
I plan on working on my silverware drawer next as well as adding drawer extenders, so I can easily reach for the stuff in the back. I had so much fun doing this project!
