This is comfort food for my soul. Maash ki daal, sprinkled with fresh lemon juice, garam masala, and a whole green chili pepper to eat with each bite just like my dad used to. Paired with fresh homemade roti. I could eat this type of simple yet tasty food every single day.
This is one of those daal’s (lentils) that need to be cooked al dente, because if you cook it just a little too long then it becomes mush, and I don’t like that. Sometimes I like it very dry, like the one pictured here, but sometimes I like it just slightly watery. You can’t go wrong! It’s an easy and basic recipe, I’m sure you and your family will love.
